Why must you plague me with women who watch their weight AND food? Who are SO vocal about calories and whatnot? You're putting me off my food! And I know, you're looking pointedly at the size of my butt. Well, you can shut it, GOD, my butt is FINE. It's round, it's bodacious and it's ... okay, so in that one dress, it looked like something you would put tchochkes on.
But Beyonce wore a dress that gave her square hips one time so, once again, you can shut it. Plus? The sweater top made me look hot so yeah, I'm going back to buy the sweater when it comes in ::sticks out tongue::
And put down that lightning bolt. I'm not calling you names; I'm just calling you OUT. If you didn't want me to eat, you shouldn't have made food so delicious. Really? I'm supposed to turn down chocolate cake? Really?! Or, wait, did you want me to eat the cake but only have a slice so thin, no one could tell a piece was taken?
Whatever. It's chocolate cake; give me a normal sized piece. I'd like to enjoy it with some coffee. WITH MILK.
All right, fine, I might give up milk. But only because I think it's causing my weird skin condition.
But seriously, what's wrong with you? What's up with making women who are always so worried and unhappy with how they look that they aren't able to acknowledge how GOOD they actually do look? Where's the self-esteem jar, God? Did you forget to give us some? What about the self-worth one? Are you skimping on that one with women too? Or are you just starting to forget to include that one in for everyone? Cause I've noticed some people sadly lacking in both and it's starting to piss me off.
And please, can you make celebutards go away? I don't think they're helping us any.
Amen.
'Twas the night before Christmas... How are you spending this Christmas Eve? Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions you're excited about?
Well, since it's snowing like a son of a bitch (seriously, snow, FUCK YOU. Fuck you a lot) I won't be doing anything. I'll probably watch some A-Team (I've been having weird dreams in which plans come together whilst I do some merchandising. I think I'm becoming obsessive about work and watching too much A-Team) or Die Hard (it's such a heart-warming Christmas movie) and we're having hot pot for dinner.
YUM!
Other than that, I still have a bunch of unpacking to do and I need to move some stuff around. Then get some sleep because I start work at 12:01 Boxing day morning ::big sigh:: though it means I'm up early enough to do some Boxing day shopping if I'd like.
... I probably won't like but whatever. It's the thought that counts.
... oh please, like it's really going to be about something that boring. Dudes, my weekend? Sleep, sleep, eat a little bit, watch some Supernatural, sleep.
Which reminds me, I have to post this. I know it's all over the place but it's freaking hilarious:
Sorry, it just makes me laugh, even when I feel like crap. You know, like how I was feeling the end of last week. Blech.
What I really wanted to talk about was pickles. Pickles and Throkky. You know Throkky, right? If not, go visit! Damn, she's just one of the most awesome of awesomes around.
ANYWAY, when she came to visit a while ago (well, not so much to visit), she brought me jam, salsa and pickles for Christmas!
Dudes. YUM. SERIOUSLY.
I had some jam with my yogurt and it was so good, so amazingly strawberry, it just reminded me of summer again. THEN when I was sick, I made myself a grilled cheese and poured some salsa with it and it was perfect! Just a little bit spicy with nice chunks of stuff. Mmmm...
But the best? The pickles. She told me to leave them all bottled up for a couple more weeks so I forgot about them a little bit (oops) but figured I'd have some with my cheese and crackers this weekend. (What can I say? I'm a health nut!)
I know I say this a lot but YUM! Definitely YUM! Not so pickley you're doing the bitter beer face
but also not bland. Very nice dill flavour and so nice with a little bit of cheese. Mmm.
So what am I saying? Just this:
MY FRIENDS ARE AWESOME AND IF YOU'RE LUCKY, THEY'RE YOUR FRIENDS TOO!
IF YOU'RE NOT, I LAUGH AT YOU WHILE DOING A "MY FRIENDS ARE AWESOME" JIG!
::ahem:: As you were.
What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
It used to be hot chocolate, while dressed in my warmest sweats, sitting in front of a fire, watching tv.
What do you mean you weren't asking for a full scenario?
Now, I'm allergic to corn and guess what they use to sweeten hot chocolate? Corn syrup! Or corn starch or whatever. Something corn. I can't remember.
::sigh::
Now, I drink tea with honey and non-dairy creamer.
What's your favorite kind of homemade cookie? Share the recipe if you have it.
Definitely the old standard: chocolate chip. Mmmm, my mom used to make the best ones. I think I still have the recipe floating somewhere. They were so good. The ugliest things ever (my sister and I used to just plop them on the baking sheets) but very good.
It's kind of strange, I've been having a craving for them off and on for the last week. I was thinking about trying to find the recipe and making them for Christmas. I WILL be making Chocolate Crack for Christmas. I think I'm going to test it out and see if the ones I make are as good as my friend's (we'll see). I think I'll make my co-workers my guinea pigs.
If your Vox Neighborhood had a potluck dinner tonight, what dish, drink or dessert would you bring?
Well, most of my friends like the layered dip I make. It really is fantastic. I'm pretty sure I've talked about it before and did some pimping for the book I got it out of but here it is again:
Seriously, if you can't find it in the bookstore, look online. It's a GREAT book.
What is your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
Ahhh, Canadian Thanksgiving was more than a month previous but I still have fond memories. Just one dish? Can't do it. It's a symphony of various flavours mixing and matching and just making music in my mouth. Turkey, wraps, hoisein sauce, green onion, it's a lovely thing. Then there's the mashed potatoes and gravy with stuffing all mooshed together (I eat gross, I know) and the occasional Chinese sesame cold noodles which are lovely.
Mmmmm... Luckily for me, this is also what we eat for Christmas except dad might make a baked spaghetti to add on. Then we go out for his birthday on the 26th.
Man, I love food.
What's been your worst experience at a restaurant?
I think I've already talked about it but I went for dim sum (alone) at this restaurant my sister and I will typically go to. Dudes, it was like I had leprosy and no one wanted to catch it.
I mentioned this to other people and they said that most likely, they wanted to serve the larger tables quicker because they made them more money. My opinion was that if they wanted to get me out of there quicker, they shoud have served me first because my food was easiest and I would leave the table quicker for a larger group.
You make me linger at a table that sits 4 and your group of 4 has to wait that much longer.
Anyway, I've only been back once, the food's okay but I think in a city full of Chinese restaurants, I'm going to find myself another dim sum place.
So I have a package of raw almonds. What are the different things I can do with them? And how? Can I roast them? If so, at what temperature? Can I just eat them raw?
Please help me. I'm so food stupid sometimes.
What are your top five favorite cooking seasonings?
Submitted by skip.town.
Ooooh, food questions! Thanks skip.town! I can get a little more excited about these than the sports ones.
Favourite seasonings... we're not going to add black pepper and salt, are we? Those are pretty standard.
And also it depends on what kind of food. When I make hot wings, it's all about the sage, parsley, oregano, rosemary and Montreal steak spice. SO GOOD. And of course Louisiana Hot Sauce.
But if I'm going pasta, it's all about the garlic and red pepper flakes (especially good if you saute the garlic first and then throw in about half a palmful of red pepper flakes to saute a little too. Really infuses the oil/butter you use). At that point, outside of pepper and salt, I don't really need anything else. Though sometimes I'll throw in some parsley or rosemary.
With potatoes, it's all about the dill. Dill, dill, dill, dill, dill. And salt and pepper. There's something about dill potatoes that feels so homey and comforting. Unless you're mashing. Then I'm more of a roasted garlic and rosemary girl. But if you're roasting baby potatoes, making hash browns or making your own oven roasted fries, go dill. Rosemary's nice too if you want to change it up a bit but I'm just a dill girl.
That's what she said!
Sorry.
Yup, those are my biggies. I'm not a huge fan of marjoram; I think it has a funny taste to it that I just can't get over. I'm really not a black licorice flavouring person so anything that gives that flavour is pretty much out of my repetoire. I don't mind Chinese 5 spice but I don't cook with it.
Hmmm, what did I miss? Oh well, I'm sure you'll tell me.
