Things I hate:
When I'm right
Let me explain: Remember the awful time I was going through last year and the beginning of this one in that awful department at the BIG IMPORTANT UNIVERSITY I work at? Remember how I was saying the director there is an ass and a motherfucker but at the same time, I was kind of trying to be nice by saying that maybe it was just a personality conflict that caused it?
Yeah, I was right: he IS a motherfucking asshole.
This last week, I heard from some of my former co-workers. We were fairly friendly and I gave one of them a vague warning about what was going on with me and about how the director will probably treat them. This past week, I found how he's banned the four clerks from eating at their desk at all, plus they have to write down the exact time they're taking their breaks and lunch and can ONLY take their breaks and lunches at that time.
Not only that but the woman who took over my job (during a very difficult period, I might add), has been yelled at by the project manager with the company we contracted to do the programming (so the people they're PAYING to do work) and was called "uneducated" and routinely humiliated and talked down to. Does she get any backup from the department? Nope. M gets told that she should be nicer to L and that she should write nicer emails.
FUCK. THAT.
Those of you who know how to program, tell me this: if something in the program is standard, does this also mean that if it doesn't suit what the client needs, it's not customizable?
So, YAY I was right.
And BOO.
I'm really sad for them that I was right. I kind of hoped it was just me, that my personality clashed with his so much that he dedicated quite a bit of time tearing me down (and he seemed to; it was almost his second job). Unfortunately for them, the only thing I can suggest to them is talk to the union, tell them that he's harassing them and basically lobby the first blow. (wait, am I saying that right? I'm a little tired right now.)
Hopefully someone in a position of authority takes his head out of his ass and deals with this before he loses 4 clerks right before the new application cycle starts. Training new people at that time? Well... let's just say:
CLUSTER FUCK
In books, when they describe a character as having no discernible accent. What the hell does that mean?! It happens in Agatha Christie books, Nora Roberts book, all fucking books. Someone needs to explain to me what no discernible accent sounds like. Is it mine? Is it that hear everywhere accent? Because I could swear, if you drop me in London, they would probably say I HAVE a discernible accent, a weird cross of Canadian and American with odd British sounding words (I'm a little pretentious at times).
And with all the various accents throughout the UK, which one is not discernible?
Someone. Explain this to me.
Wow, this may recur as another post. I seem to hate a lot of things. Perhaps I'll do separate ones of things I love.
And yes, I'm bastardizing the Love/Hate posts most of you are doing.
